The Cusio area takes its name from the Ancient Romans' name for the lake which runs through the territory, but today it is known simply as Lake Orta.
Traditionally considered one of the most romantic lakes in Italy thanks to its picturesque beauty and its evocative lanscape which includes the lake and the surrounding mountains, the Cusio area is also known for its fascinating little historical towns which have inspired poets, writers and film directors. This land has been a leading light of independence over the centuries that have endowed the little towns with their traditions and legends, contributing to the entrepreneurial character of its inhabitants. In fact, numerous handcraft businesses have maintained their importance, and hospitality and tourism are bywords here.
The area is also renowned for its year-round sports opportunities, even winter sports on the nearby Mottarone mountain which separates Lake Orta from Lake Maggiore.
A seamless blend of history, tradition, nature and culture which makes the Cusio area a distinctive place of character, a region within a region, the pearl of the mountain areas of Piedmon
